Hey there, fellow travelers and adventure junkies! 🌍✈️
Planning your next US adventure? Why not head to New Orleans for your jazz and jambalaya; Boston for your history and baked beans. Nah. Let’s take a look at some of the knockout big hits. From the more frenetic energy of New York to the slower pace of San Francisco, here’s a rundown on some of the US’s best-calibre cities.
New York City
Right then, first up: The Big Apple. If you are coming to NYC and don’t head to Times Square at least once, did you even come? And it’s loud, and it’s bright, and it’s crowded. New York is in fast-forward mode here. You have come to experience chaos, billboards and people.
After you have tired of the bright lights and bustling crowds, though, retreat to the oasis that is Central Park. With its tranquil lakes, its covered meadows and its old-world footbridges, it is like entering a different reality. Hire a boat, take a picnic or just sit and watch the world go by from a sunny patch of grass.
And classics like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building of course. Take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and climb to the top of the Empire State for envy-inducing vistas. NYC is a repository of past, present and future, so dig your spoon in!
Los Angeles
From there, it’s off to the City of Angels. If your trade is pix, L.A. is your town. Begin with the Hollywood Walk of Fame and pose with the stars (well, at least the ones on the sidewalks). Then go to Universal Studios for a backstage tour of the industry.
Art aficionados should go to the Getty Center, which has 11 galleries and a stunning design. Or experience live music in one of the historic downtown theatres.
Be sure to visit Santa Monica or Venice Beach for some sun, sand and people-watching – and head up to the Hollywood Sign for that obligatory photo. Los Angeles is like a golden, glittery hadron collider of grime and glory, of glamour and gutter – completely sun-drenched.
Chicago
O Chicagoland, what a show:No copyright on your skyline –picnic in your green;Un-dated cityscape where neon beams rise through the park;A mile of milled marble to gleam while you snog.Oh Chicago – I love US.
Dig a little deeper into culture at the Art Institute or, better yet, go for an Archi-Tour on the Chicago River. Those buildings tell stories too.
If you get the munchies, indulge in a deep-dish pizza or a Chicago-style hot dog. Then maybe catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field or take in some jazz at a set. In the windy city, the opportunities are endless and the memories are priceless.
San Francisco
Finally, San Francisco. The views are everywhere, check it out. Start with the Golden Gate Bridge – questionably the most photographed bridge in the world. Stroll/bike/get a snap. Tour the various districts, Union Square and Chinatown less than 15 minutes from each other. The Mission District has its collage of colourful murals that tells the history of great social struggles and movements, and Mexican dives that line the streets with mouth watering cuisine.
Hop on a boat to Alcatraz Island and take a tour of the prison. You have to ride on a cable car. Doesn’t matter where you sit – you’re going to have a blast.
Nature-lovers, drive out to Muir Woods and be dwarfed by a dynasty of redwoods. For foodies, there’s the seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. San Francisco has something for everyone, chances are.
Yo, get on it, grab your bags, hit the road and dive into the real, wild, fun and crazy cities of the United States, where Adventure Awaits with some Epic Memories. Let’s Do This! 🌆🚗🗺️
